If they don’t they’re making a mistake. He’s a great character, played by an excellent actor (Mark Sheppard, from 24 and Firefly, among other things). I have to give him credit for taking a fairly mediocre episode and turning into a fascinating study of several of the show’s main characters. And he’s got just the sort of anti-hero charisma this show is going to need now that Starbuck is gone.
To think he was supposed to be killed at the end of the episode, and Lee was going to defend Baltar on his own. Yeah, that would have made a lot of sense. And I’m sure it wouldn’t be grounds for an appeal if he were convicted…just because they chose a Viper pilot instead of an actual LAWYER to defend public enemy number one.
Speaking of Lee, I guess he was supposed to be the central focus of this week’s show, or at least his relationship with Adama was, anyway. Just when I said I was tired of it, they go and do an entire episode on it. The good news is, maybe that means they’re going to wrap up that particular ongoing plot device, or at least have a temporary resolution so we can get a break from it.
James Callis continues to be the best part of this show, and the crazier he gets, the better. I, for one, can’t wait for the trial to start so he can really shine in the center spotlight. The interaction between Lampkin and Baltar should only get better.
Unfortunately, the only way I can think of to keep Romo around for a long time is to drag out Baltar’s trial, and I seriously doubt they’ll do that. I mean, it’s not like Baltar killed his ex-wife and her boyfriend or anything, he only allowed the Cylons to wipe out billions of humans across twelve planets, right? I’m sure the trial will only take, what, two, three episodes? Of course, if they did drag it out, it would probably end up turning into Law and Order: Special Battlestar Unit.
Hey, wait—on second thought, that might be just what they need to get the ratings up.
