More shooting, more conflict, more deceit, more mystery, more singing—even more cliffhanger! How long can this show continue to do it all?
NOTE: AS USUAL, BEWARE OF SPOILERS!
Demetrius and the baseship go to jump back to the fleet, but of course there’s a malfunction and the baseship goes on ahead first, AND its communications fry—causing Galactica to attack, and most of the fleet to jump away. Finally the others make it there and tell them to stand down, but not until after Tigh mysteriously ordered everyone not to shoot—so much for remaining loyal to the fleet. Roslin, Athena, and Six (and maybe Hera) all have the same dream in the opera house, and Six takes Hera away, which causes Athena to freak out, especially after Hera drew and colored a book with nothing but Sixes and sixes in it. So Athena shoots the Six called Natalie after she sees Natalie talking to Hera in the hallway. Meanwhile, the humans and the Cylons make a deal to take the baseship together and blow up the hub for the Resurrection Ships, only the humans plan on screwing over the Cylons and vice-versa. The Cylons realize that would be bad, but it’s too late. Roslin goes over to the baseship to talk to the hybrid after having another dream, but as soon as the hybrid is plugged in, she jumps the ship away from the fleet.
How come the near-mutiny on Demetrius was never even mentioned? Even if they all decided not to say anything, there had to be SOME explanation for Gaeta’s leg being blown halfway off.
Tigh and the other secret Cylons seem to be crapping bricks over the fact that everyone seems to want to unbox the D’Annas so she can identify the Final Five. It seems to me it’d be to their advantage to secretly let the other Cylons know.
The scenes with Hera apparently seeing Athena’s dream, saying “Bye, bye” and then disappearing were both creepy and intense to watch. It’s no wonder Athena freaked out and shot Natalie-Six after seeing her daughter taken away. I’m not sure Natalie is dead, though. It was pretty strange that Athena chose Tyrol to grab Athena away from Natalie, not knowing he was a Cylon as well.
Roslin can be a mean, mean woman when she wants to, can’t she? After discovering her aide, Tory, is sleeping with Baltar, she sets her up just to verbally bitch-slap her, then tells her she wants to know who’s spreading rumors about the President sharing info with Cylons. Her line about not caring how Tory got the information, whether on her knees praying or just on her knees, was harsh, but it’s difficult to feel sorry for Tory after the way she cold-bloodedly blew Cally out the airlock a couple of weeks ago.
Gaeta had to have his leg hacked off just as he feared, and the writers took advantage of Alessandro Juliani’s great singing voice by having him sing to deal with the loss. But, as we know, the four secret Cylons were hearing a song in their head just before they discovered they’re Cylons. Anders, who was the one who shot him, seemed to be suspicious, and since I’ve suspected Gaeta for awhile I tend to agree. Then again, I’m sure they’re going to throw a bunch of red herrings at us before revealing the truth. After all, Starbuck is hearing a song or some other noise to lead her to earth as well.
Speaking of Starbuck, it was pretty ballsy of her to approach Roslin, considering what transpired the last time they saw one another.
What a cliffhanger, too. Not only are there still a bunch of colonial pilots and marines on the baseship, but the President herself is there, and now they’re off on a mission to destroy the Resurrection Ship hub, and the Centurions have been programmed to take over once they’re there. Whew! When they plugged that hybrid in, and she immediately said “JUMP!” I was shocked. They really know how to get me on this show, that’s for sure.
The fact that this middle-of-the-season cliffhanger for an ordinary episode far surpassed the season finale of Smallville from the night before is a testament to just how great this show is.
