Bugs. Really big bugs. Huge bugs. Really huge bugs that invade earth and decimate the population. These aren’t the kind of insect that take over the planet and enslave the human race. No, these bugs come to feed. Sometimes going directly in for the kill, other times making groups of people into green balls of snot-like matter for devouring later. This is the world in which Yuji Kaido woke up.
Twenty-two years earlier, Yuji voluntarily underwent artificial hibernation in hopes that when he awakened, medical science would have formulated a cure for the virus with which he had recently been diagnosed. Instead he awoke in 2031 to what seemed like a nightmare, with a huge bug-like creature attempting to kill him. That creature, and the others like it, are called Blue and had been sighted as early as 2017. At first the insects seem harmless, feeding on things like concrete and metal. Then they began to consume people.
Yugi is rescued by soldiers from Second Earth, where some children and youth were evacuated to escape the Blue and to preserve the human race. While on Second Earth, the young people were trained to use armored fighting machines and other weapons against the Blue. Once trained, the young soldiers were sent back to Earth to collect all those in hibernation and bring them back to Second Earth. This was the mission of the soldiers that saved Yugi, among them, Marlene Angel, who proves to be constant annoyance for Yugi, but with whom he later forms a strong bond.
On the way to transport Yugi to Second Earth, the Blue, again, attack the soldiers leaving only a few to protect Yugi, and get him to the other planet. Thus begins Marlene’s adventure to get Yugi to Russia and the transport station to Second Earth. Along the way, they encounter both friend and foe, and endure conflict that strengths their relationship. Later, on Second Earth, it is found that the mysterious virus Yugi has is connected to the appearance of the Blue.
Overall, Blue Gender it a great adventure story with explosive action. Each episode draws you into the mystery of Yugi Kaido and the Blue, and also the young soldiers on Second Earth.
