Creepy killers take readers on a suspenseful ride as FBI Agent Kelly Jones hunts them through mass graves along the Appalachian Trail.
A year after losing her partner – and very nearly her life – Jones is back, and tracking two killers hunting through rich vacation homes from Vermont to Massachusetts. Nobody really cares; after all these are gay kids searching for a Sugar Daddy to make all their problems go away – at least for this season. Most of the local yocals are not professional, and don’t want any help from the bureau. Others are almost too eager to assist. Then, Jones’ boyfriend, Jake, shows up unexpectedly and begins to put a little pressure for commitment in the midst of the chaos.
The bodies begin to pile up, and so do the professional and personal complications, and Jones wonders if they will ever catch these killers. Then, a final victim is taken, and the urgency to solve the case reaches a fever pitch in the darkness of the Appalachian Mountains.
Gagnon brilliantly juggles several characters and merging plotlines to create a suspenseful, satisfying read that detective mystery fans will embrace. Her style is direct, and her knack for dropping little vague clues throughout about the case and Jones’ personal life keeps readers intrigued and wondering just where Gagnon might go next.
Avid, long-time mystery readers will likely figure out where the story will end, but bumps and turns along the way will keep them from knowing for certain.
Boneyard is the second in the Kelly Jones series. You can read as a stand alone, or first check out The Tunnels, Gagnon’s breakout novel.
My only wish is that I could have had a little more inside of Jones’ mind about her personal life. There is just enough to whet my appetite, but I’m craving to find out more details about her, her relationships and her past. That means book three is on preorder.
If you like Linda Ladd’s Claire Morgan series, check out Gagnon’s Kelly Jones in Boneyard. She is tough, yet vulnerable, with a man who loves her, but may not stick around long enough for her to figure out she loves him. She is more than just her career, and, I believe, her character can go in many directions based on her unhappiness at the bureau.
Gagnon has created an addictive, suspenseful read that will keep fans coming back for more.
This week, Michelle Gagnon is featured on the Pop Syndicate book blog. Check it out!
