pure sleazy madness that makes you wonder what drugs the filmmakers were taking while making it.

You ever see a movie and think, what the hell did I just watch?  Die Zombiejager falls into that category.  The ultra-low budget zombie film was filmed in Gothenburg, Sweden for a measly 4,000 Euros. For the small amount, the filmmakers were able to do quite a bit with the gore effects and didn’t waste an cent on things like script rewrites and acting lessons.

Die Zombiejager has everything people love in low budget horror films, bad acting, gratuitous nudity, off beat characters, bad metal music and huge holes in logic.  I’m not really sure what the plot is other than three Germans are called to Sweden to kill zombies. I think there was something to do with tainted milk and there is a guy, in an odd facemask that looks like he hot glued his grandmothers dentures to it, building some kind of super zombies.  The plot isn’t really important since most of the movie is just the three guys drinking beer and killing zombies with the occasional bit of dialog thrown in just for laughs.

Logic be damned as bullets don’t kill zombies but throwing stars will certainly take them down.  The three main characters look like rejects from a third generation Street Fighter knock-off and spout dialog almost as inane.  To add extra tension and help fill the viewer in on what’s going on from moment to moment, there is a reporter that appears to have been hired from the local McDonald’s and her cameraman surely came from a special needs outpatient program as neither appear to have a clue what they are doing and should probably kept away from the general populace.

What’s really surprising is the huge amount of bonus features included on the DVD.  There is a commentary, four featurettes, three trailers, a commercial for Combatzone, a bit on the make-up effects and some other stuff.  It’s a fully loaded DVD that goes far above and beyond what you would expect from a low budget DVD release.

Fans of low budget filmmaking will love Die Zombiejager.  It’s pure sleazy madness that makes you wonder what drugs the filmmakers were taking while making it.  The film is worth watching for the excessively graphic face peeling scene alone.  Die Zombiejager is so much to watch, I can’t wait to see what they do next.  Grab a few friends, large amounts of beer and enjoy this movie.

It’s a bit tricky to find a copy to purchase but you can go to http://www.darkdisc.com and pick one up.

Thank you for the review!

First I would like to thank all our fans for supporting us and making our productions come true.

Zombiejager have now been sold in more than 1000 copies.
I just want to tell you that Zombiejgager will be released on DVD in July in the US. The edition is a duo-pack wich includes another swedish horror maker, Joakim S Hammond’s short, “Murder Island”.

Also watch out for our new project, Dragonetti, the ruthless contract killer (in production). We have planned a release for theatre in Sweden fall 2009 and a DVD-release in December.
