Doctor Strange has a promise to keep as he tries to save the life of his protégé and his own.

The Sorcerer Supreme played a vital part in the New Avengers: Illuminati and now he has returned for another mini-series that is geared to launch him back into the Marvel Universe on a more permanent basis. Doctor Strange: The Oath #1 begins with some light-hearted fun as Iron Fist and Arana are sitting in Night Nurse’s waiting room. Suddenly the magic man is brought in and on his last breath. As Night Nurse rushes him into the ER, Doctor Strange astrally projects his body so he can supervise his own surgery, tell a bit of his origin and explain the reason he may have been attacked in order to help his assistant and protégé.

Doctor Strange can get a bit heady for some folks because there tends to be more talking than action in some of his stories. This issue has a decent mix of both as it sets up the mini-series. Vaughn does a great job in making Doctor Strange more than just a talking head. (Also check out Vaughn’s recent OGN called Pride of Baghdad that’s been selling like hotcakes).
