Doctor Who (4.12) The Stolen Earth

image

“Your voice is different and yet… it’s arrogance is unchanged. Welcome to my new empire, Doctor; it is only fitting that you should bear witness to the resurrection and triumph of Davros, lord and creator of the Daleks.”

Epic finale, year four.

Plot Points – Earth vanishes, removed to the Medusa Cascade by a revitalized army of Daleks, as well as their creator, Davros. The Doctor and Donna give chase, while on Earth the gang’s all here: Sarah Jane Smith, Jack Harkness & Torchwood, Martha Jones, and of course Rose Tyler.

Doctor Who? – He refers to himself at 90 years old as “just a kid,” and cites the ability to steal planets as “fearsome technology.”

Hey, Hey, Donna  – Finally has that big cricket off her back, but now she’s hearing the sound of drums. Okay, it’s a heartbeat, but still…

Rosewatch – Poor Rose just can’t find the Doctor, until the end, in which she gets him killed.

This Year’s Arc – Oi with the bees already! We finally find out what’s up, and it’s just another Douglas Adams rip-off. “So long, and thanks for all the honey.” And we finally get to see the Shadow Proclamation, and it turns out to just be some drab aqua-colored rec center where Judoon hang out. And what’s all this stuff about the Doctor being a “threefold man”? And one more reason why this year’s finale is too similar to last year’s finale: the whole world calls out to the Doctor. Again.

It’s Davros, dadgummit! – Introduced in 4

About JE Smith

Location: Irving, Texas

Occupation: Freelance

Bio: JE Smith, aka Jeff S., is a forty-something guy who was born in Illinois, but has been living in the wilds of Dallas, Texas for more than twenty-five years. He has been a movie nut ever since seeing Escape from the Planet of the Apes at Steeleville Theater in 1971 and is also obsessed with Doctor Who, Ultraman, Star Trek, The X Files, Batman, Spider-Man, Doc Savage and many other pop culture icons. For fifteen years (1981 - 1996) he published the sf/horror filmzine Wet Paint, and tried his hand at self-publishing his own comics with Bulletproof (1999, 3 issues) and Complex City (2000 - 2003, 4 issues and a trade paperback), both of which bombed. He's been writing film reviews for almost thirty years and is just getting the hang of it. Married to the lovely Barbara for over 16 years, and owned by a sleepy cat named Max.
