This hilarious but too-short book is a great stocking stuffer for cat lovers everywhere.
Ever wonder what your feline is thinking when they stare for hours out the window, or when they are kind enough to dump a not-quite-dead mouse on your bed?
Comic Molly Brandenburg sets out to tell you in her new illustrated mini-book, Everyday Cat Excuses. This tiny tome is filled with feline wisdom designed to help the people cat’s own understand their fickle behavior. While there wasn’t an explanation for why cat’s like to pee on their human’s bed, it did offer up some funny – and totally true – feline behavior.
Cartoonist Brandenburg is a comedian, actress and Gal Friday of the funny side of Tinsel Town. This, her first book of cartoons, was an Okay read, but not as funny or fulfilling as I had expected. Not all of the jokes were laugh-out-loud funny. The majority drew a chuckle from this critic, who is owned by three fickle felines. I was disappointed that the 30-plus page book didn’t have more. Cat boogies and personality could fill a 500-page tome. The drawings also didn’t do it for me. The modern-day childlike scrawls called cartoons just don’t appeal. I like my cartoons to be more polished, and I think that would have added al little more pizazz to the book – especially to the jokes that weren’t quite as funny.
A few of the jokes went on too long. Four pages for a hairball? By the time I finished it, I had five hairballs to clean up. There is also a long section on cat excuses where the kitties explain why they can’t do… well, something other than sleeping, eating, pooping and peeing on the bed. (Oh, did I forget throwing a dead mouse in the air during kitty football?)
Still, Everyday Cat Excuses is a great little book to put on your Christmas or birthday shopping lists for the cat lovers in your lives. I would drop the eight bucks on it for a gift – but not for my myself. Find out more at http://www.everydaycatexcuses.com/.
