Eyes Like Stars by Lisa Mantchev

This book reads like living magic. I had been looking forward to the release of this book for months and when I finally got my hands on it I couldn’t put it down.

Bertie is mesmerizing and I want to see more of her! Bertie lives in a theater, not just any theater this one is special. It’s in its own kind of separate dimension but still a part of our world. The players never change but the theater changes all on its own to bring each play to life. Bertie doesn’t have any parts. She is an orphan that lives in the theater and helps out where she can. Unfortunately Bertie has a gift for mischief and ends up in a situation where she is about to lose the only home she ever knew. With some fast thinking she devises a plane to really make herself a part of the theater. She plans to become a director!

As Bertie struggles with trying to direct players who don’t want to change the way they do their parts she learns more and more about her past and where she came from. Through trial and error she finds out who she can trust and who is against her. Ariel is super dreamy with that dangerous edge that just makes you want him that much more. I know I shouldn’t like him but just like Bertie I can’t seem to remember his flaws when he’s smiling and talking so sweetly. Nate is a pirate. Pirates are always cool. He’s special because he isn’t a jerk. He is a great opposite for Ariel. With him you get all the bad boy reputation but it’s packed around a caring mature core. Cobweb, Moth, and Mustardseed have a knack for turning dull situations into pure mayhem. I love them for it. When they all collide stars are born!

The descriptions in the book are really what make it into sweet sweet candy. Every scene, every costume, every character is given so much detail you can easily picture every part of the story. There are scenes that flow and dance in and out of your vision like perfect daydreams. This is one of those books I’m going to be cherishing for a long long time. If you want to experience the theater and see it come to life around you from the comfort of your home this book is the way to go. I can’t wait for the rest of the story.
