“Thank you for calling Bishop’s House of Horrors,” exclaims Peter as he answers his cell phone. And a house of horrors it was with that porcupine looking “manimal” in the plane wreckage and a transforming man on the lab table.

“Thank you for calling Bishop’s House of Horrors,” exclaims Peter as he answers his cell phone. And a house of horrors it was with that porcupine looking “manimal” in the plane wreckage and a transforming man on the lab table. They do call the episode “the transformation”, hello! Not to mention two rounds of tank therapy and a conclusion to the John Scott story. I’m glad Massive Dynamic finally showed Olivia what happened to John Scott and where they’re keeping him. To top that Broyles knew all about it. Will this be the last we see of Olivia’s former lover? Let’s dive in.

image The episode opens on what seemingly is an ordinary flight. There is a guy writing about technology and destruction when he gets a nose bleed. He goes to the bathroom and swabs his mouth and whatever he sticks the swab in turns red, obviously “positive.” Needless to say he freaks out and tells the flight attendants to get him sedatives, asks about weapons on the plane, and to keep him contained. It is apparent he knows what is happening to him, but what? After a few minutes of pinning himself in the plan lavatory he breaks out as a porcupine looking animal with spikes and starts tearing up the plane. It obviously isn’t a good thing when a plane crashes and explodes into a field. What happened to this guy and why him? Who is he? After this scene and during the commercial I was thinking about when I get nose bleeds. I might just think twice the next time I get one. Would you want to turn into that thing? It looks painful and gross. His teeth even began to fall out, which is a frequent dream I have and that just scares me! Gulp.

At Olivia’s apartment Ella has tons of make-up on. She reminds me of my niece who loves to slather on the make-up and pretend she is Hannah Montana. She is so cute. I think this scene was to set up the John Scott story and to remind the viewers her sister is still hanging around. Still, doesn’t this sister have a job? I love that they incorporated her family into the story line but this show doesn’t have coincidences, there is something behind it. I hope I’m wrong though! Olivia admits to her oblivious sister that John was a traitor and used her to get information. Ouch. The sister is floored and just hearing it come out of our heroine’s mouth is painful. I know I would be depressed and feel used. I’m sure she feels the same.

image  At the crash site Charlie, Olivia and team meet the porcupine manimal that caused all this destruction. Charlie brings a list with all the passengers on it and Olivia automatically recognizes one of the men on it, Bowman. How did she do it you ask? Via john Scott’s memories of course! So obviously he was involved with this man and another man in the memory she sees but how were they involved? Why would this guy dose himself? He seemed to not know he was dosed until it was too late! Hm. But, Olivia tells Charlie it is her gut that it was this guy and the investigation begins. Back at the Office Broyles rounds up all the agents, Olivia and Peter and they listen to the last 60 seconds of the black box from the plane. They hear the distress in the pilot’s voice and that something is attacking them but that is it. How sad. No hope of surviving.

Olivia also remembers (via John’s memory) that the other guy in this rogue memory was coming to meet Bowman after the flight. His name is Hicks. Charlie inquires how she knows that and she comes clean to him. She tells him about the shared consciousness and the lingering John Scott memories in her brain. I don’t know if he believes her but he lets her follow the lead anyway. They are bringing in Hicks. What faith Charlie has in Olivia! If someone told you that would you believe them? I don’t know if I would.  So once they bring him in, they start to question him about Bowman but before they get too far his nose starts to bleed as well. Oh no! He is dosed and turning into a manimal! Why does this ALWAYS happen? They get a suspect in a room and they die from a slug? From a parasite? Turn into a monster? Let’s back-burner the whole suspect being killed while in custody, can we? Take a few episodes off from doing this! Thankfully Walter is there and knows what to do with him. They begin to sedate him but Olivia wants to know who is behind this first. He gets out: Conrad.

I’m still curious as to what the weird mutated monster is, aren’t you? Well, leave it to Walter, he knows. The porcupine manimal, as I call it, is a designer virus that mutates your entire DNA structure into something totally different: this monster. The people who engineered this must be geneticists because Bowman’s DNA was totally rewritten. They can tell it started with a nose bleed. Walter also finds a piece of glass in the doctor’s hand. What are those things? Why are they so important? They have been in multiple hands in other episodes. How do they link these people together? Curious!

image  Olivia knows that Hicks, Bowman, and John were all connected so she goes through a box of John’s stuff looking for “Conrad” as Astrid searches the FBI databases. Nothing. In the lab they have put Hicks in a medically induced coma so that he won’t transform as Walter works on an anecdote. Olivia notices something on Hick’s hand and she finds another disk imbedded there. Another. Disk. In light of the new development, she goes to Broyles and wants to exhume John’s body to see if he has a disk. We all know that she can’t exhume a body that isn’t in the ground, so Broyles comes clean. He takes her to Massive Dynamic where Nina Sharp reveals the true nature of John Scott. Olivia walks into the white room and sees John in his tube! And low and behold, he isn’t alive! What? Turns out John Scott is being kept in a suspended state to extract data from the disk in his hand. He does have one! They explain that these glass disks are data storage devices that transport information. Unfortunately, they only carry the data for as long as the host is alive. So that is why John is still in between life and death. His disk carries information about a bio-terrorist cell but they can’t get much off of it except to further implicate John in the scheme. They also find that Conrad is a chemist and doctor who built a lot of biological weapons and is now selling them on the black market for lots of money. So is that it for John Scott? Will he be gone totally from the show once they get all the information? The question is how do you find out what John Scott knows when you can’t ask him? Yes, that is right grasshopper: put Olivia in the tank! But, wasn’t this dangerous?

Here we go back with Olivia in the tank. Immediately, she remembers the first time they met at the seedy hotel in the first episode. Walter reiterates that this is a memory and she can’t interact with it, but John again addresses her. Is that because he is still in a suspended state and his brain is alive? I think so! What a crazy turn of events! So Olivia picks up John’s gun that was on the bed and they talk. She asks about the terrorist cell and Conrad. He stalls and she shoots him! That is when Walter says she is too far in and gets worried. But, Olivia is taken to an alley and shown who Conrad is by John. He explains to her everything that happened while he was alive. He was on a black-ops NSA secret team that was trying to get close to the terrorist group… to take them down. He never saw Conrad, so he can’t show her who he is only his limo! He can’t prove any of this to her because these types of missions are not on record. Convenient huh? So does that mean John was actually good? Why didn’t he tell Olivia? But, should she believe him? He finally tells her to trust Hicks, but Hicks has been put in a coma. So why not wake him up? I mean, Walter has a possible anecdote, right? Olivia goes with her gut again and wakes Hicks up.

image  So, with the help of Hicks they know enough about the biological weapons buy to intercept it. They send in Olivia and Peter with the help of Hicks in Olivia’s ear. While in the room, they get all the way to meeting Conrad but they find out that it takes years to make an anecdote and they have the only one. So, Hicks begins to transform into the monster while still connected to the bug in Olivia’s ear and cannot help her anymore. That is when Conrad catches Olivia in a lie and guns draw. Thankfully the FBI is watching. They save the day and take everyone in to custody. Good job Olivia and team! You just caught a big baddie! He had been putting biological weapons on the market for years! She tells Broyles that John Scott helped her, but he says officially he is still a traitor since they can’t prove his operation. She seems satisfied that John was telling the truth and at least she knows it. Another note, I thought it was sweet that Peter went along with Olivia on this mission. He was obviously there to protect her. You can tell he has a thing for her and so can Astrid, I believe. I don’t think Olivia has a clue or needs a clue because she needs to get over Scott first.

Walter says that her memories of John are fading according to her brain waves from the last tank visit. Having normal brain wave frequency is probably a good thing. So she gets closure back in the tank, where she and John are on a dock overlooking a lake. She tells him that they caught Conrad. After that, they share a sweet good-bye and he vanishes. So is that it? The end of John Scott and Olivia’s brain connection? The end of John Scott’s story? I was pleased that he really did love her and even showed her the ring! I think she can finally move on from him and maybe on to Peter? Please? The last words of the show are fitting for February, the month of Love. He says he loves her and she says she loves him back. Chills.

image  In the end, I’m satisfied that we got to finalize the John Scott story so quickly. Bow and all. I find it fun that Anna Torv and Mark Valley actually got married in real life. He gets the girl in real life! It seems we are getting a lot more answers than questions. I mean, now we know what those glass disks are used for. Will we find out who the observer is? Are there more than one? If you missed him in this episode, you are not alone! He is on the field right before the plane crashes, but very small and unnoticeable. They also say he might have been with Bowman on the plane. See enclosed picture. And it looks like next week we get to find out more about Mr. Jones, who teleported out of prison earlier in the season! He seems to be the mastermind behind a lot of the pattern events, so maybe we will find out what the pattern is? Who is good and evil? I can’t wait.
