The thing about Heroes is that you can never miss an episode.

Hiro is still in 1600s feudal Japan. His hero from the history books, Kensei, is a drunk and a real jerk toward the ladies. Hiro steps in to save the Englishman’s reputation, save the village where Kensei’s future wife is from and help rescue the swordsmith, who was captured by rebels. Kensei is shot by arrows and dies – but he pulls a Claire, heals and lives. (Hm…)

At Isaac’s former apartment, Ando talks to Parkman, the mind-reading detective on the Nakamora killing. Remember, Old School heroes are receiving their photographs with this bloody mark on them. Ando tells Parkman the Death Mark is the crest on Kensei’s shield. (Hm…)

Parkman gets Angela Petrelli’s prints from the scene. The rich diva is still pissed about Nathan saving the world instead of becoming its ruler. Parkman shows her the photograph with the Death Mark on it – she got her own last week, remember – and she says it is the logo of her husband’s law firm. (Ah…)

Last season, we learned that the Petrelli matriarch’s dead hubby was a good hero and he wanted to truly save the world by bringing everyone together. This little tidbit makes me wonder if he’s actually alive and killing off the people who (in my thinking) likely killed him to fulfill their vision for the greater good. To back this up, Parkman pulls from her head that the killer is out for revenge because “we did something terrible.” Lying Linderman told Nathan last season that the Petrelli Papa lost all hope with earlier failed efforts. Linderman and Mama Petrelli are wicked and I would not put it past them to kill a good hero to fulfill their vision for a heroic utopia that the elite Old School controls.

Mama Petrelli is attacked in the police station. No one sees anything – it just looks like she’s fighting herself. I thought that was interesting, since last week Ando saw the killer in a hoodie. Mama is saved, but for how long? And will this scare her enough to give it up to Nathan or Parkman?

In other Heroes news:
• HRG is tracking the new killer. He shares the first painting in Isaac’s series, which depicts Hiro’s father’s death. He tells his wife he will find the rest of the paintings to try to change the future. Here’s the deal. I still don’t think she’s his wife. Remember, she was abducted by The Company last season, and an evil shapeshifter took her place. I think the shapeshifter is still in play and HRG is playing her to play The Company.

• Peter is now a crook in Ireland. The thieves who rescued him from a shipping box – where he was chained up – have discovered a box with Peter’s information in it. Peter doesn’t know who he is and is desperate to recover his memory. He will hook up with them next week and pull a job so he can get his hands on that box. Peter rescued head thug’s sister from some bad dudes. Could be a developing romance there. (I doubt they “discovered” that box themselves. Bet they had a little help with that. But who wants to keep Peter down? Mama Petrelli. Because he’s good like his father. Remember how Simone’s father – before he died – said that Peter would be what the world needed after devastation. Angela Petrelli wouldn’t hear of it.)

• Maya and Alejandro. Okay, so her power is creepy eyes that kill when she’s terrified. Maya’s eyes turn black and bleed – though it looked more like oil on my screen. I was expecting so much more. That’s been (over) done in the horror flick genre. Her twin, Alejandro, is the flip side of the coin. He is her stabilizer, and can absorb the death stare that emanates from her. (Christine Feehan has done this in romance novels already, though the characters aren’t blood and tend to get it on quite often.) After two episodes of watching the pair try to get across the border from Mexico, I’m ready for their abilities to move to HRG or Mo or The Company. (What if she procreated with Sylar? Now that would be interesting…)

• Claire hates pretending. West, the boy who flies, already suspects she is special. He accidentally sees her cut off her little toe to see if she can regenerate – which she does. She runs outside to find him, but he’s gone. Mr. Muggles is barking at air. HE’S UP THERE, CLAIRE!!!

• The Company tells Mo about a third person with the virus that specifically kills heroes. The first two victims were Mohinder’s sister and then Molly. Only Mo’s blood can save them. He discovers the hero is The Haitian. The Haitian clears Mo’s mind of their time together and The Company forgives Mo for letting the man go – at least this time. Mo is working with HRG to take down The Company.

• The Haitian ends up at HRG’s copy shop. Wonder what devious things they will cook up next week?

I keep seeing Sylar on the commercials, but he has yet to make an appearance. As you may recall, Sylar “died” in the finale, but he pulled a Claire and came back to life and scurried to the sewer. I’m curious to see if he’s alive and what role he will play. He could be reincarnated and come back good. Or something that Hiro does in the past could change his personality. I’m also wondering about Nikki/Jessica, Micah, D.L. Have they just vanished or something? And what about Sprague? I don’t understand how Nathan is alive after the explosion, and I look forward to seeing how that came to be. He’s the flight man; Peter can regenerate, thanks to Claire. Peter would definitely live, but Nathan? I guess he flew many light years away to avoid that nuclear-force explosion during the (let-down) finale.

I wanted to see more from Molly about the all-seeing hero who terrifies her. That is creepy and cool. Hiro offers up some welcome comedic relief in between HRG and Mo’s plan to get The Company, Claire’s angst at not being herself – and her raging hormones, and the new heroes killer. I look forward to seeing more about the Kensei crest and if Hiro set off a chain of events that allow the Old School heroes to be killed off. I’m also curious to see who the other players on in the elite Old School club.

I thought the shape-shifter was killed at the end of last season.
