Almost like Rod Stewart.
Sit back, relax and enjoy the soulful tunes of James morrison, whose voice is akin to the long-rocking Rod Stewart.
After his mega debut Undiscovered in 2007, Morrison is back and ready to take the pop charts by storm. His sophomore release, Songs for You, Truths for Me, offers amazing vocals, slow and fast tunes that captivate audiences. The title is Morrison’s way of telling listeners that he’s singing for others while the words are truths for him, truth about life, about love and relationships. The songs he either wrote or collaborated on were about his family (especially his sister, Hayley) and his girlfriend, Gill, whom he sees so little of because of all the traveling.
His strength lies in the songs he’s picked to fill this sophomore album. There are slow tunes and jazzed up numbers that will keep your fingers snapping to the tunes. With his first album going to No. 1 in Britain and Top 20 in the US, Morrison must be doing something right. He had five singles off that first album.
“Love is Hard” is about when a person is deeply in love and it hurts inside. He has a slow-ish number called “Broken Strings” which he duos with Nelly Furtado. It’s about the fact that you can’t play a song on broken strings. Morrison writes what he feels and it comes across in his songs whether they are fast or slow and instrumentally backed.
The album showcases Morrison’s talents in a distinctive, soulful style. His songs have more of a point to them as he says on his Myspace site that his first album. For him, the lyrics come first followed by the melody and the rest takes care of itself. His inner feelings are evident with the songs on the album and if you close your eyes, you can almost visualize him at the microphone singing in his raspy, stylish voice.
I relaxed while this album was playing. It was laid back and easy to listen to. His song with Nelly Fertado will be a hit for this singer and he can count on others doing likewise.
