Farmer boy Stanley, his new love Mimi and Jake (Skeet Ulrich) head out to hunt food. It’s winter in Jericho, Kan., and a storm is brewing. The trio run into a band of dangerous hunters, who run them off the road and leave Stanley with an injured leg and Jake trapped beneath the truck. City girl Mimi shows grit as she runs several miles to find help – in the form of Jake’s parents, who were worried about them when they didn’t return before dark.
Meanwhile, Jericho Smoking Man Rob Hawkins and his former lover, Sarah, go to meet The Mystery Man, who Rob has tracked two hours away. The Man is dead and his communications equipment smashed. Rob is able to use unharmed hard drives to track his teammates – only to discover that three have been executed while others are whereabouts unknown. For a secret agent man – or whatever he is – Rob isn’t that smart if he didn’t realize up front that if someone wanted to really destroy the equipment, they would have done a better job. He goes home to make certain his family is safe. He decides to take Sarah’s advice and move them. Darcy, Hawkin’s wife, tells him not to trust the wily Sarah, who is working for the Bad Guys – whoever they are.
While Rob and Darcy have a heart-to-heart, Sarah goes to meet The Bald Man, who’d been tracking their movements throughout the day. She kills him. She’s not ready to kill Hawkins – yet. But she might change her mind as soon as she has her treacherous little hands on The Missing Package.
Intrigue, complicated twists and nail-biting action are what keep viewers coming back to a show like Jericho. The episode smacked of the lava-like movement found in earlier episodes and offered little in the way of interesting plot movement. Instead, it focused on cheesy hypothermia-induced, heart-to-heart moments between Jake and Stanley and later, Jake and his father, Johnstone.
Note to the producers: Not certain where this is shot, but those pretty little hills Mimi faced as she trudged along to find help aren’t native to the flat plains of Kansas. This episode also should have run in January instead of March to stay in line with Midwestern seasons; it would have had more impact.
