Lady Gaga: The Fame

image

Lady Gaga’s debut album “The Fame” is a mix of dance pop and electro with a touch of disco to give it a special spice.

Upon first hearing this I wasn’t sure if it was very special or if I even liked it. She grew on me though, quickly too.  It’s really nice to have a new pop artist that not only got there all on her own by working her ass off playing in clubs all over New York but she writes her own lyrics and melodies and actually sounds original. All the songs make you want to sing along and risk dancing in public even though you know you’re horrible at it. Don’t be surprised if, while listening to her on your mp3 player, you sing out loud and enjoy yourself so much you forget people are giving you odd looks. It’ll happen.

Something vital to what makes her so special is missing from the CD though, it’s her actual performance. Lada Gaga’s goal isn’t just to infuse pop music with something new but to also bring more spice to the performances themselves. She brings an entire theatrical experience to her performances. Disco balls, sequins, and high fashion all come together for a real exotic feel. Now when I say the CD is missing that, I don’t necessarily mean it in a bad way. Her music is strong enough to carry you along for a ride without the show but if you get the chance to see her don’t miss it.

“The Fame” has a lot of really great songs. The best being “Just Dance”, “Love Dance”, “Beautiful Dirty Rich”, “The Fame”… it might be better to just name the less than great songs. The so-so songs were “Paparazzi”, “EH,Eh”, and “Brown Eyes.” These are the weakest but still not horrible songs.  Her voice and sound at times is reminiscent of Gwen Stefani at her best but Lady Gaga keeps the awesome sounds going and really gives you a whole album to enjoy.  She has a really great voice, sometimes the effects on the vocals is a little much but at the same time it works with the sounds that she’s creating.  This is a debut album you don’t want to miss out on.
