LOST continues to send our view of reality topsy-turvey.
Michael’s return sent Sayid and Desmond into a tailspin, as Michael caught them up on his life since the island. Harold Perrineau displayed a stunning portrayal of Michael off the island, wrestling with his demons and his past. The re-emergence of The Others was, of course, not a shocker, since we knew already he was Ben’s go-to boy. Still, in unraveling his reasons for being tempted back, we received more fuel for the theory fire.
Sayid and Desmond were not convinced of Ben’s validity, but somehow Ben manages to gain the trust of Locke’s group, if only warily. I’m afraid I’m not buying it outside of the fact that the man has a supernatural ability to hold people on a loose lead. He seems to be able to control them, though their every instinct is to riddle him with bullets. Producers Richard Peter Schroer, Brian K. Vaughan, and Samantha Thomas put together another episode of fastidious detail. Story editor Christina M. Kim followed through.
The deaths in the last five minutes still have me wondering if the island is really through with this favorite character. I still can’t believe they followed Ben’s advice after the heinous experiences he put them through.
Is it really the island? Or did another get a DWI and need to be written out for time away from the show? That Ben, he’s so sneaky. Maybe he’s wreaking havoc off-set as well as on.
