LOST continues to reveal great television is possible.

This week on LOST, more humor, suspense and totally-makes-you-flip-out graphics.  The enigmatic Ben received his turn at story line shifts. Is it backward is it forward?  You’ll have to see on-line if you missed it.  Bottom line: one of the greatest bad guys in T.V. history let us in on some big secrets and character revelations.

The writers have also given us a few more mysteries.  How did he get to the Sahara?  Was it Magic or the Big Black Pearlie Cloud?  Did Jacob send him randomly swimming through the atmosphere and rip his jacket in the process or did Scotty Beam Him Up to the exact coordinates Ben wanted.  Why is he a preferred visitor at a hotel in Tunisia under the name Dean Moriarty?  The mysteries thicken even as we plumb the depths of the man’s ability to manipulate and kill without qualm.

But Ben Super-Villain has an Achilles heel.  He loves his daughter. Michael Emerson gives a brilliant performance. He would do anything for Alex, even send out Big Black Pearlie to sizzle kadizzles.  You won’t want to miss that scene.

I didn’t find the obvious use of Disposable Ensigns to be amusing, especially after the third one ran stupidly out to see what happened.  I’ve lost count of the Throw Away Islanders.  Nor did I find it convincing that Sawyer could dodge machine gun fire by hiding behind a white-picket fence. Of course, tornadoes really don’t take you to Oz and I still love the yellow brick road.

Kudos goes out to Locke’s Band.  The looks on their faces when Ben rejoined them:  Priceless.

At the same time that we learn the depths of Ben’s powers and the weaknesses that drive him, we continue to distrust him and fear for our heroes.  This is an episode full of clues and questions, blasted with the high drama we expect from LOST writers.  Don’t miss these pieces to the everlasting puzzle.  Tune in next time when Hurley says, “Help us Evil Ben Kenobi. Jacob is our only hope.”
