Drum roll, please!
Writers Elizabeth Sarnoff and Paul Zbyszewski connect a few dots while still letting us hang by our theories. This is the genius of LOST: Juliet, Locke, and Sawyer survive the episode together. Not one of them truly trusts the other two, but because they know each other more than they know the people trying to kill them, they are willing to lend a hand—or save one as the case may be.
The beauty of the situation is that John Locke needs to get to Richard “Arrggg” Alpert (who I still think is a Pirate) and Juliet knows all about Richard Alpert. They aren’t sharing info, however, because Juliet is an Other who doesn’t want to be and John Locke is not an Other, but thinks he is. He should have studied Latin. Got that? John Locke, of course, walks through the Island like Captain Jack Sparrow walks through canon fire. He just moves about, la dee da.
Special kudos goes out to actor Terry O’Quinn for pulling that off. Another special kudos goes out to Josh Holloway for making “confused” look so hot.
The deepening mystery surrounding Dan, Dan, The Physicist Man, made this particular episode for me. Especially since the pop-up recap alluded to Eloise Hawkins. Could she be Dan’s mum? We don’t know. We also don’t know if Dan is evil, since his callous research on time travel received funding from Widmore, or if Dan is simply another rat caught in the Island’s maze. I want to like him for his gallantry toward Charlotte, but fear women are a side note to his passion for science. Momma always said to stay away from the time travel type. The producers have created yet another character that captivates us while making us cringe.
When the episode played out, I felt as if the strings were beginning to weave together, a pattern forming that I can’t quite make out, but I finally know it’s there.
