LOST (5.8)  “Namaste”

Frank pulled off another intense landing while actor Jeff Fahey underplayed just enough irony to emotionally restrain us during the crash.

While we’re on the subject of how humor inhibits our fears, I must offer kudos to director Jack Bender for creating the perfect screen moments with the words “Uhh What?” and “I lied.”  For that, I will forgive him for putting Amy in a hammock. Obviously, he’s never had a C-section.

I must also say how much I loved young Ben. I hope the little actor doesn’t grow into his character, but let me tell you, when the light hit his eyes at the word “Hostile,” I felt a shiver. I don’t know if that was the brilliance of casting directors April Webster and Veronica Collins Rooney or digital eye transplants by special effects coordinator Archie K. Ahuna.

Writers Paul Zybszewski and Brian K. Vaughan had a big job on their hands. How do you get the returnees plugged into Dharma? They did a superb job making it believable and creating tension between Juliet and Sawyer regarding Kate. Possibly too good. I totally bought Jim LaFluer as a content man ready to settle down and start a family, form a library chapter and lead a small island nation. (By the way, Juliet led book discussion while amid “The Others.” They really need to get busy on that children’s section.)  After everything, I really don’t think Sawyer’s interested in Kate. Because of the history between her and Jack, I wonder if Kate will end up with anybody. I do want her to end up with someone. Look how much she gives, man. And Evangeline Lilly is such a great actress. She has more to offer as well.

Funny how this episode was written by men, yet had such a score of relationship mambo. Maybe Kate could end up with Frank. I REALLY like Frank. I want Frank to have a love interest. Sun and Jin still have me at “Ahn-young-ha-seh-yo.”  Their frantic rush toward each other—same Island, different time zone—builds toward another one of those Desmond/Penny moments. Do you remember that line at the end of A Princess Bride? “In all of history there have only been two kisses…” Well now it will be four. Speaking of Desmond and Penny. Keep the camera rolling. I must know.
