Damn you Mariah Carey and your infectious grooves.

Well it had to happen eventually I guess.  I always knew the world is coming to an end and I was just hoping it would be later than sooner. How do I know the world is coming to an end?  It’s simple, Mariah Carey has a new CD out and I really like it.  It wasn’t supposed to go down like this but it did.  So kiss your loved ones good bye because the world will be ending any day now.  Damn you Mariah Carey.

It was wrong of me to enjoy her downfall and career implosion after the tanking of Glitter and Rainbow.  Her saccharine songs were destroying pop music and I wasn’t going to miss another pop diva going down in flames.  Then the unthinkable happened.  She got her life under control and released the Emancipation of Mimi.  Not only was she back but she was stronger than ever.  Now for the real test, was Emancipation of Mimi a fluke or is she here to stay?  E=MC2 is a strong follow up to her award winning album. She’s not alone in her exploration of Einstein’s theories.  She brings along T-Pain, Damian Marley and Young Jeezy with Jermain Dupri uncredited on several tracks.

The first single “Touch My Body” is Mariah’s eighteenth number one single taking her into the sacred realm of Elvis and The Beatles in terms of number one singles.  It’s number one with a good reason.  Sexy, upbeat and smooth, I hope Janet Jackson listens to this and takes notes on how to be sexy.  It won’t be alone in its number one status.  “Migrane”, “Last Kiss”, “For the Record”, “Side Effects” and really most of the album all have potential to be number one hits and probably will.  Believe it or not, T-Pain doesn’t use a vocoder on “Migrane”.  I’m kidding.  You wouldn’t have T-Pain on an album if he didn’t bring his vocoder along.  I like to imagine that he has had his vocal cords permanently replaced with a vocoder.

Fans of Carey’s will feel justified in the love of the pop superstar.  E=MC2 is another smart move for the singer and will collect more than a few new listeners.  With over a 150 million in album sales, Mariah Carey has reached a level of success few have.  At this point in her career she could releases a CD of Yoko Ono covers and sell several million copies.  Believe the hype on E=MC2, Mariah Carey isn’t trying to reinvent herself but build on what she has already established.

Go buy this CD but keep an eye on the sky as it will start raining brimstone.  Damn you Mariah Carey and your infectious grooves.
