Midnight Meat Train Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

image

Dark and brooding, Midnight Meat Train Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is a great companion to the film.

Much has been written recently about Lionsgate dumping Midnight Meat Train in the cheap theatres and basically disowning the film despite receiving decent reviews.  Fans of Clive Barker have been very disappointed in the shabby treatment of the film.  Based on the short story of the same name from the Books of Blood series, Midnight Meat Train is a great story and looks to be a pretty good movie.  Lakeshore Records has cobbled together a nice collection of alt. rock and metal songs to compliment the film.

Similar in style to the X-Files: Fight the Future and Spawn soundtracks; Midnight Meat Train OMPS is a blending of metal and techno.  Each song has been remixed by Justin Lassen and he does a great job blending the two sounds into an edgy thrilling album.  It’s the soundtrack to any goth club.  Creepy, moody and intense, Lassen has picked a great crop of artists.  He makes subtle alterations to the tracks like adding a slight train noise to the opening of Apocalyptica’s “S.O.S. (Anything But Love), or adding a bit of movie dialogue to Slvtn’s “Dismemberment Express” that compliments the song perfectly.

Lassen hasn’t just reworked metal artist music. On two tracks, he takes the score and reworks it to make it even more creepy.  Robert Williamson and Johanns Kobilke’s score is effective on its own but Lassen expands “Leon’s Obsession” the song by over a minute and gives it a much heavier beat.  Their second track ends the CD appropriately called “End Credits”.

More people on DVD than in theatres may see Midnight Meat Train, but everyone can get the soundtrack now.  It’s an edgy, creepy collection of songs that are perfectly reworked by Justin Lassen.  If you need party music for your Halloween party this year, look no further.  It’s rare to find music this moody and yet still danceable on a movie soundtrack.
