Natasha Borzilova goes solo with her first album Cheap Escape, which easily pleases.

Natasha Borzilova first came to the music world as the lead singer and acoustic guitarist of the band Bering Strait, made up of child prodigy musicians in the late 80’s. The band eventually separated in 2005 and Natasha was free to use her own personal musical expression. Her first solo project, Cheap Escape, aims to please. And she more than succeeds. With her beautifully lyrical songs, soulful and touching voice backed wonderfully by a full band, she easily entrances the listener.  Yet is her voice and guitar work that really shines through and emphasizes the emotions in the songs.

Her songs range in story from songs of sweet reluctance and forlorn loss, to reminiscence and growing change that almost make you want to cry. Then she brings you right back with her almost magically woven tales, brining the listener to a happy level of contentment that I just couldn’t help but sing along to. Her lyrics are intense yet never melodramatic, and they sing true of a woman’s journey through life and love.

It’s hard to believe listening to her nuances that English is not her first language. She effortlessly converses with the listener through her lyrics, and songs from her first album will appeal to just about any one, in any age group. Cheap Escape would be excellent background music for anyone who wants a soulful, beautiful voice to listen to. The guitar use is also wonderful. The way she plays works well with her voice, and its one of the real appeals of her sound. There are not too many female singers out there that really fuse their talent at playing guitar with their vocal talents. Natasha Borzilova pulls it off well.

Cheap Escape is a wonderful debut by a very talented singer. At first it sounded like any other talented female artist, but after a couple of listens I was easily addicted.  A few of my favorites are the title track “Cheap Escape”, which sings of love and adornment, “Real Fight”, which is great for anyone who knows they are better than that jerk, and the song “Don’t Stop”, which serenades with lyrics of painful longing. The albums sound is really good, and I can’t complain about the recording. I highly recommend this new album. I promise you won’t be disappointed with Natasha’s songs and winning voice.
