The Illuminati return to shed more light on their organization

Marvel’s Civil War began with a one-shot called New Avengers: Illuminati, which was a gathering of the masterminds of the respective groups in the Marvel Universe: Prof. X, Reed Richards, Iron Man, Namor, Black Bolt & Dr. Strange. They were acting as a secret brain trust to circumvent any threats to our world or solar system. As usual, they couldn’t even agree with one another, especially Namor. The one-shot was popular enough to garner a second printing despite it being a bunch of talking heads.

Now that Civil War has proven itself to be popular despite the slow output of the main title, the Illuminati have returned in a mini series that continues their storyline. For the most part, it’s them taking on the Skrull and warning them to lay off or they’ll take the Skrull out. They have to prove their might and it works for a bit, but the Skrull get their revenge. Then something that made no sense to me what-so-ever happens in the middle that involves some of the other heroes for a couple of pages before it gets back to the story. I read it twice and maybe I’m just missing something, but it was a confusing sequence.

Regardless, the action is fun even if the plot didn’t totally make sense. The art isn’t bad but seems a bit rushed. More exciting than the one-shot but I’ll hold off on adding it to my subscription until the next issue.
