Chaotic, disturbing and challenging, not what people are looking for in their music today.  Pity.

It’s hard to describe Plastic Crimewave Sound.  They’re chaotic, poetic and nightmarish.  This is the first CD printing of their cult favorite 2006 LP release, No Wonderland.  Banging drums, screeching guitars, distorted sounds and random poetry permeate the album.  It’s a tough listen the first go around, but once you adjust, Plastic Crimewave Sound produces some interesting tracks with lots of variety.

They describe themselves as “psychedelic/punk/minimalist.” If that means raucous sound, trippy styles and pulsating rhythms, then that’s what they be.  Plastic Crimewave Sound is hard to categorize.  (no that’s just another way of saying, “they suck but they’re artsy so they must be good”) The band is not afraid to get into a groove and just explore, as several of the tracks last over seven minutes.  That’s not to say they are a jam band ala Phish.  Several of the tracks are under a minute.

No Wonderland isn’t a casual purchase.  This is serious music for serious music fans.  You’re not going to put the album on to dance and shake your moneymaker.  No Wonderland is meant to lay back, dim the lights and let me music envelop you.  Of course burning a phattie wouldn’t hurt either.  With sitars, acoustic guitars and orchestral strings, Plastic Crimewave Sound brings something new to the table.  It’s just a question of whether anyone will listen.

Plastic Crimewave Sound isn’t an easy listen.  I would strongly recommend checking out their MySpace page and looking around a bit online to find out what they’re about.  If you’re willing to invest the time, and in today’s instant gratification society that’s asking a lot, I believe you’ll find No Wonderland to be greatly rewarding.
