Robin Thicke:  Something Else

image

This guy’s got it.

With numerous awards under his belt, Robin Thicke returns with his new album, Something Else and rips the curtains open on a wide array of musical styles and genres.
With disco, calypso, bosa nova, blues, pop and rock as his backdrop, Thicke sings his heart out on this album.  You can hear the influence of Michael Jackson throughout the CD and even Thicke’s sometimes falsetto voice doesn’t ruin the tunes as they play.
Thicke was born in LA, but has traveled to New York City and Paris where he picked up the various songs for the album.  He’s been on tour with Mary J Blige and Beyonce and gives them credit for where he is today.
“Magic,” the first single off the album, draws on a heavy disco flavor to drive it home.  There’s the bosa nova beat of “Lover Man,” and a ballad called “Cry No More.”  Thicke uses his falsetto voice in several of the numbers while being backed by a full orchestra.  This singer is multi-talented and doesn’t seem lost in any genre he croons.
In 2007, he received the VH1 Soul/Vibe award for “Best Breakthrough Artist” and nominations from BET, Soul Train, and MTV for his performances.  He’s the son of TV star Alan Thicke and grew up in a house filled with music of all varieties.
Every song on the album will touch something in each of us.  It may be nothing more than a past memory of what we were doing when we heard the beat of the music or, more likely, how much we like the song and want to play it again so we can hum along.
He’s currently touring with Mary J Blige and his album is going to be a winner.  Something Else will win some top awards for this one-of-a-kind singer.

I think Robin Thicke is the best in a long time since the days of Marvin Gaye, Tyrone Davis, Curtis Mayfield and so many others. I think this young man is amazing and creative and a Blessing to the music we hear today and its good music from what I use to remember soulful sounds sounding like. He’s refreshing in a deep rythmatic and soulful, and spirit moving way. His sound is funky with a delicate flavor to it. I know he will go far if he keeps doing what he’s doing and keep the positiveness about himself. I know that his parents are proud and proud they should be because they have a wonderful son in this young man who fills our ears with beautiful magical vibes and gives such joy.  I wish Robin and his family nothing but blessing from God and much success in all his endeavors.  I own 3 of CD’s and enjoy listening to them quite often.  I look forward to hearing more from this fascinating young man.  Thanks Robin for, “bringing the soul back into music.”
