Scene after scene.
Scenes of a Sexual Nature are exactly what the title implies. Every one of the stories told on this DVD has sexual overtones and is told in a rather graceful, not forceful, way. With one exception, a young black woman is waiting for someone while standing under a tree and a young white man approaches and tries to make conversation. His comments are mistaken for a come-on and she says, “So you want to f—- me? Is that it?” He looks bewildered, but answers in the affirmative. She leads him to a different part under the trees, makes him drop his pants, and then leaves him stranded there as passersby gawk at him. He pulls up his pants and runs away.
Two older folks sit on a bench and have confused the day that they normally visit the park. He usually visits the park on Thursday and she visits on Wednesday. He tells her it’s Thursday and they reminisce only to find out they were the two lovers who were supposed to marry each other years earlier.
Two gay men on beach towels talk about their future and one wants to adopt a child and stay at home to raise it. He’s willing to do anything just to have a child so he can be called “Dad.”
The tales keep coming and the acting is quite good. There are approximately eight different stories that are told in this montage and they all intermingle with each other briefly. It was filmed at a park in London where the director wanted the camera to continually “look out, not in.” Therefore, in every scene of the horizon, London forms the backdrop with the park on it outskirts. Some parts of the park are lush with foliage; others only bear dense trees here and there.
The special features include the making of the film, a commentary by the director, Spanish subtitle and English subtitles.
I enjoyed Scenes of a Sexual Nature and was out of breath when the two older actors “finally” climbed the hill to the top where they sat down and admired the view. This is one of the better DVDs to come along and will have prominence on my bookshelf for years to come. I liked the comedy and love to laugh. This had both for me.
