Next Volume is entitled “You Shall Love”. This Volume should be subtitled “You Shall Learn To Snowboard Without Maiming Yourself”.
The Prayer Club is going to be taking their annual ski trip, and seemingly fate is conspiring against Serenity by sticking her in a stiff work schedule that means she can’t go, along with no money and no chance to make any past her work. Kimberly couldn’t be happier, but Serenity is totally bummed… that is until the same fate that seemed to conspire against her turns to her favor in a blink of an eye. Almost immediately things begin to roll into her favor and she’s going.
From then on out things can only get worst as Serenity makes a mistake concerning the nature of hot tubbing during the ski trip, the rules of the ski slopes, the whole concept of a Prayer Club ski trip that (yes) includes the prayer thing, and the whole continuing to try to break up Derek and Kimberly thing.
And look! What was that again about the Prayer Club NOT “like” liking Serenity from last Volume? Still don’t buy it, no sir, don’t buy it at all. (At least I still don’t buy it when it comes to Lori & Sally and maybe Tim in anycase, even if Serenity cut of Tim and got on his bad side).
However things take a bad turn as Serenity gets messed up and has to be rolled off in the ambulance. And look, Tim, that’s not her … EWW!! Gross!
Part of a two parter (which ends next volume with the beginning of the conversion of Serenity into her new Christian self), Serenity Volume 5 continues the now solid perfect pace it’s had since Volume 3 (apparently once the title got it’s pacing and footing down pat, it began to roll strong post Volume 2 and really hit the marks just fine in my good book).
Yes, occasionally I did have my problems with the title (the events of Volume 4 come to mind) but the writing and artwork (and the ever lovable cast of characters) can’t be faulted. Not one bit. 5 Snow Days out of 5, good title!
