Tess tries to force Clark into revealing his powers and Jimmy is having drug-induced hallucinations…or is he?
Tess takes Clark to L.A. on Oliver’s private jet and has the cockpit explode, pretends the pilot has been killed, and lies about there not being any parachutes in an attempt to see Clark use his powers. But Clark waits until she passes out from lack of oxygen, then jumps out of the plane with her, telling her later that he found a parachute. Meanwhile, Jimmy sees Davis kill someone at the hospital, so Davis takes some elaborate measures to make it look like Jimmy is hallucinating due to all the pain killers he’s taking. When Chloe sides with Davis and is forced to tazer Jimmy, he tells her that marrying her was a mistake.
This was a decent episode, although not a lot happened. Tess’ plan was apparent to me from the beginning, and considering she’s read Lex’s journal and seen the room dedicated to Clark, I’m not sure why she went to such great (and dangerous) lengths to get him to use his powers in front of her. It’s obvious she likes him as more than just an employee as well, so it doesn’t make a lot of sense for her to jeopardize any chance at a romantic relationship by manipulating him. But, then again, maybe that’s just her personality and she can’t help herself.
They were more than a little deceitful in the promos for this show, which made it seem like Clark was going to actually fly out of the plane. But when the moment came, all he did was drop straight down with Tess in his arms. We already know he’s invulnerable, so what’s the big deal?
The Jimmy story was much more interesting. Even though he really did see Davis kill the drunk guy and then try to cover it up, a lot of what he did resulted from not thinking straight, either because of the pain killers he was taking, or because Davis was giving him some stronger stuff to make it seem like he was hallucinating. I was kind of shocked that he left Chloe at the end of the show, but it makes sense. Like he said, she always sides against him. Granted, she thought she was doing what was best for him, but she could have handled the situation much better. And hugging Davis right outside Jimmy’s hospital room when there’s a great, big window there? Major dumb mistake.
I still think it’s way too obvious where this whole thing is headed. This show used to be really good at season finale cliffhangers, and I’m really hoping they do something completely unexpected to surprise me.
But, let’s just say I’m not holding my breath.
