TV: Smallville:: 0 comments: by Christopher Valin

An alien hottie is looking for her ideal mate—the last son of Krypton—and ends up kissing guys to death as part of her search. But what a way to go, huh?
Tess Mercer accidentally sets off the Kryptonian beacon using the crystal, which attracts Maxima, an alien queen looking for a worthy mate. She quickly discovers that human males can’t even handle a kiss without dying, but keeps doing it anyway hoping to come across a Kryptonian eventually.
Jimmy finally makes an appearance and proceeds to make an idiot out of himself, both with his whining about a letter Choe wrote to Clark when she was a sophomore in high school, and by giving in to Maxima’s advances. Hopefully the fact that Clark didn’t tell Chloe about Maxima made Jimmy finally realize he’s not a threat to their relationship. Ambulance dude, on the other hand, is a different story…
It was way too easy for Clark to defeat Maxima. When they finally have another character whose powers rival his, you expect there to be a battle royale, not a quick kissing scene followed by the baddie unwillingly being teleported away.
So apparently Lois and Clark’s attraction to one another has gotten so obvious that even an alien amazon who sees them react to one another for two seconds can tell there’s a connection. That’s funny, ‘cause I’ve been watching them together for a few years, and I haven’t noticed much myself. Maybe it loses something on this side of the TV screen. Sure, Lois’ jealousy was obvious enough, but how about leading up to it with something substantial?
Where’s the crystal? Someone calling him or herself “X” has it, and is withholding it from Tess. As usual, I haven’t been reading any spoilers and don’t have any inside info, but if I had to guess, I would say Chloe is experiencing a split-personality complex with a Brainiac side getting a hold of the crystal without the Chloe side knowing about it.
It’s really bugging me that everyone continues to live in Smallville and work in Metropolis. It has been established that they’re at least a couple of hours away from one another, and other than Clark super-speeding between work and home, nobody should be making that commute (especially with gas prices being what they are). They should just cut the cord and have them all get apartments downtown.
I’m still not sure what I think about this season overall. It seems to be an improvement over the last, but the writing is not always so spectacular and they take a lot of shortcuts. I guess the new showruners are still getting their feet wet, so they deserve a chance to improve.
But with this probably being the last season, they’re quickly running out of time.
