If you haven’t heard about Snakes on a Plane yet then you obviously don’t follow the hot new trends, New Line knows that no matter what they’ve got a hit on their hands. The last time the web created a hit (Blair Witch Project) it went on to become the biggest indie film of all time. Snakes on a Plane looks to be a huge hit, at least for its first weekend. With any pop film, an upbeat pop soundtrack is sure to follow. Snakes on a Plane is no exception. Filled with remix versions of songs by Fall Out Boy, The Sounds, Panic at the Disco, All-American Rejects and more, Snakes on a Plane: The Album is a great indication of what’s to come.
Released by New Line Records and Decaydance (the label owned by Fall Out Boy’s bassist Pete Wentz), Snakes on a Plane has one solid, fun hit after another remixed to make them even more hip. Starting off the CD is Cobra Starship (with The Academy Is…, Gym Class Heroes and The Sounds) with “Snakes on a Plane (Bring It).” One of the four songs on the soundtrack that isn’t a remix, “Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)” is extremely catchy and instantly singable. If any song off the sound track is slated to be a huge hit, it is this song. “Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)” should be playing on top 40 stations everywhere very soon.
Gnarls Barkley fans might recognize Cee Lo Green on the second original song “Ophidiophobia”. “Ophidiophobia” (the fear of snakes) is a fast, bouncy song that quotes film to add extra coolness. While not as strong as some of Gnarls Barkley’s songs, it definitely falls has their feel and fans won’t be disappointed. “Lovely Day” by Donavon Frankenreiter, who sounds almost exactly like Jack Johnson and in fact learned to play guitar with Jack, is a laid back beach song. The song should help more people track down Frankenreiter as his laid-back hippy sound is becoming incredibly popular these days.
Interspersed through the soundtrack are snippets of movie dialogue including the infamous line utter by Samuel Jackson. Overall the soundtrack is awesome and should only help add the excitement around the film.
