Star Wars The Clone Wars Season 2 Episode 4

Oh no, Padme Amidala’s life hangs in the balance… again… as she spies on a fellow Senator who may be in the pocket of the bad gu—OH WHAT!! Did they forget we SAW STAR WARS EPISODE III? (Aka that movie which puts any doubt to when Padme perishes in the Pre Trilogy Series to rest rather easily). So be disappointed, it’s another emperilment of the only female cast member of the series who we are 1001% postive will NOT occur anytime during the series (be it the TV Series or any other animated movies they may make past the first one)... come on guys, don’t make me start giving you bad scores this early in the run!!

This review out I had to go online to youtube to watch it… not that I wanted to but I had to. Anyway it looks like someone is suspected of being in the pocket of the bad guys and they need Padme to be a spy to sort out the details. This is kind of a bummer since it’s been a long time since Anakin and Padme hooked up as a married couple, and now she has to be used as a spy? What suck!

And BTW that’s the theme of the episode, suck!
Whenever they pull one of these “drama”sodes where somebody is in grave danger in this series it’s usually Padme! And of course with how big a character she is (married to Annie and all) you’d think she’d make a great choice of a character to constantly put into danger time and time again… especially now that the JedI Council wants to have her spy for them and lord knows it’s a wonder why Annie is all against them in Episode III after all these times they keep getting in his way with Amidala and then hooking her up to spy on an “old friend” (boyfriend?) and… oh, right Episode III.

Now I said above that it would have made a great choice to have Padme in danger as she is Anakin’s wife and all, except for the fact we get far more face time with Ahsoka (his apprentice) than Padme, and we’d probably be more interested and engrossed in her plight if she was in danger and not Padme… that and there’s that whole stupid Episode III thing in our face again where we actually know SPECIFICALLY when she dies! (Last few minutes of the movie!) So where is all the suspense and drama of constantly putting into risk (a few times so far thankfully and nothing more) a character whose death is already known, let alone one whose death ain’t happening until AFTER THE CLONE WARS ANIMATED SERIES ENDS!! Ahsoka? Now there’s drama, being the original character of the series she will probably pull more heart strings (and more believability factors) if she was placed in mortal peril (and we thought they were axing her character off) than Padme, who we know ain’t dying in this series! Come on, pretend we’re smarter than you take us for Team Clone Wars!

The rest is her spying (because Anakin just had to put it to her in a way she simply couldn’t resist biting down on), finding out her old friend has the slow burning hots for her while spying on him… which by the way makes it all the more awkward when Padme is poisoned by the Seperatists and it brings the odd couple of her old friend together with hubby Anakin in order to save her… awkward indeed!!

She doesn’t die, it sets up next week’s episode (which I hope is better), and now I know if I miss an episode I can watch it on youtube and review it by the end of the weekend. Cool.

This episode, however, was not cool. I’d think I (and you too) would have had more fun if they just teamed up Anakin and Padme for misadventure in marital dating! I know I would have been more fascinating with the lovely couple’s night on the town rather than all this pointless spying and stuff (which could have reached the same end in so many different ways that didn’t include pointlessly putting Padme at a useless endangering risk which we know would not end in death no matter how the writers thought they could fool us otherwise).

Oh well, it was like this last season too. Episodes that fell short.
Mostly they focused about JarJar though, this is the first Padme was supposed to shine and she didn’t do that at all… not enough to give this the usual top rank score I mostly give the series. Oh no. Not this time. This time the episode is going to take a 3 out of 5 for being too obvious and predictable! Bet you saw the ending coming halfway through the episode didn’t you! I know you did! Next time, Team Clone Wars, do better!

How so? Let me count the ways in conclusion.
1-I’d think we’d rather see Anakin and Padme together in an adventure than whatever this episode was! Just another episode to keep the two from really teaming up together as they should, and that’s so wrong.

2-I’d like to watch a story whose ending I can’t see coming lightyears off like a giant Kaiju attacking the Ultraman universe’s version of Earth (BTW stay tuned, our first review of Ultraman Mebius is coming!)

3-I’d rather see Ahsoka be the one whose life is on the line than Padme. Too much of Padme being endangered. Time for the spunky cute apprentice to have her life endangered sometimes… just as long as you don’t kill her off, Team Clone Wars… that’d suck.

Anyway next episode looks good so I hope it’s back to high ratings… next time.
