“.... Larry the Cable Guy with full-body psoriasis...”

Storm Warning is another of those movies about normal, hygienic people from the big city who accidentally run afoul of dirty/smelly, unfriendly rednecks/mutants/inbred hillbillies. Usually these backwoods folks subject the civilized interlopers to various degrees of torture, rape and murder. Most of the time the city folks are pretty and clean, while their inbred counterparts look like Larry the Cable Guy with full-body psoriasis (and that’s the women!  Yowza!).

Storm Warning changes things up a bit, but still gives fans of the genre what they want (no, not a bath, smartalec). This time the friendly folks from the concrete jungle are a married couple out for a wedding-anniversary boat-ride.  And the less-than-civililized loonies are pot-growers who simply don’t like the idea of strangers eye-balling their methods of business (which includes beating some poor fellow to death).  In fact, our happily married couple almost seem to get away scott-free, but for a couple of jerky comments and leering glances at the missus, until they mention what they’ve seen to one another (the pot and the murder). One of the greasy creeps overhears the conversation, which naturally is followed by plenty of humiliation, torture and other unpleasantness.  Luckily for feminists the land over, our plucky young heroine has plenty of tricks up her sleeve, as well as up her… (ahem) Ah, I’ll just let you discover that one on your own.

Storm Warning is a decent addition to the aforementioned genre, directed by a guy who contributed a couple of decent flicks to the enormous pile of post-Scream slasher movies (Urban Legend, and to a lesser degree, Valentine).  When it comes to this sort of film, there are some (me) who prefer the extreme gore n’ boobs route of stuff like Wrong Turn 2, but those who seek out something a bit more subtle and classy will find much to appreciate in Storm Warning.  I liked it.

The special features are okay (a commentary, plus trailers), but the only reason to really rent this one is the movie itself.
