A full performance of the Warpaint album!
In the Spring of 2009, Eagle Rock Entertainment released a 2CD set of The Black Crowes: Warpaint Live, taken from their sold-out performance on March, 20, 2008 at the Wiltern in Los Angeles. Now that same concert in which the band performed the studio album Warpaint in its entirety is available on DVD and Blu-ray.
The concert is nearly 2 hours of every song from the critically acclaimed album, including some extended versions of some songs, as well as a few previously unreleased cover songs such as The Rolling Stones’ “Torn and Frayed,” Reverend Charlie Jackson’s “God’s Got It” and Moby Grape’s upbeat and most interesting song of the set as Chris Robinson and crew end the show with “Hey Grandma.”
Robinson sings lead vocals, plays some guitar and harmonica while guitarist Rich Robinson backs his brother on vocals and occasionally plays slide guitar. Most of the slide guitar is played to perfection by Luther Dickinson, which he plays through a majority of the concert.
Steve Gorman (drums), Sven Pipien (bass/vox), Charity White & Mona Lisa Young (backup vox) and Adam MacDougall (keyboards) comprise the remainder of the band for this concert. MacDougall’s keyboards take front and center on occasion. There’s no doubt he has talent but he doesn’t shine like Jon Lord, Ray Manzarek or Joe Sample would in the same situation.
The performance is presented in widescreen with audio options in Dolby Surround 5.1, Dolby Digital Stereo or DTS. There is also a nice color booklet comprised of liner notes, photos of the band in concert and a couple of pages of quotes that sum up Warpaint.
