Pop Syndicate along with The Big Red Podcast, The Gentleman’s Guide to Midnight Cinema, ShowShow, Obscure 80s, Outside the Cinema and Cinema Diabolica has joined together to do something special this holiday season. This year we are getting together to raise a little money for schools through Donors Choose. We answer the call directly from teachers for specific items they want to use in the classroom - everything from paper and markers to projectors and microscopes. The requests are modest but the rewards are great.
DonorsChoose.org is a simple way to provide students in need with resources that our public schools often lack. At this not-for-profit web site, teachers submit project proposals for materials or experiences their students need to learn. These ideas become classroom reality when concerned individuals, whom we call Citizen Philanthropists, choose projects to fund.
Proposals range from “Magical Math Centers” ($200) to “Big Book Bonanza” ($320), to “Cooking Across the Curriculum” ($1,100). Any individual can search such proposals by areas of interest, learn about classroom needs, and choose to fund the project(s) they find most compelling. In completing a project, donors receive a feedback package of student photos and thank-you notes, and a teacher impact letter.
Leaving No Child Behind In Reading #1
Making reading fun is very important when it comes to trying to get kids to read daily. I have found an amazing reading activity that not only encourages kids to read but makes it fun. My project needs 6 Language Fundamentals Test Prep Activities sets to assist my students in improving their reading skills for the state test.
I teach all of the students in grade 1-5 that have not passed their state assessments. Using the Language Fundamentals Test Prep Activities will helped make reading fun by allow the students to use reading cards on different reading skills based on their individual level. I have seen this activity used in a classroom and I know it will be a great addition to my own literacy center.
In this proposal I am asking for the different sets of reading cards to build on to my literacy center library of reading comprehension materials. These cards can be used by students each day as they rotate through the different center based on their reading level.
The state test is difficult and these activity cards will give my students practice on a daily basis. The Language Fundamentals Test Prep Activities will be exciting for the students and will encourage then to read and become confident in their ability to pass the state test.
I teach math to an AWESOME group of sixth grade students in a collaborative and resource setting.
Our geometry unit is quickly approaching and we need a classroom set of geometry mirrors to teach our students about reflection. Last year, we borrowed a set of eight, and the students loved them, but had to share them with three to four other students in one class period. It would be much more beneficial to have them whenever we need them and to have enough for each student.
With a class set of 40 geometry mirrors, our instruction will continue at a good pace. Students will no longer have to wait to learn about transformations. More reflections can be completed during each class period.
With your kind donation, you make it possible for my students to get the most of our short class periods. Students will be enthusiastic to learn about geometry using new tools. My sixth grade students can’t thank you enough!!
