The Poker Club

When your friends for life, you know you can count on each other. Right? Does that include covering up murder? Haw far are you willing to go and how much are you willing to share with your best friends? Your life?

Aaron Tyler and his buddies have been playing poker together on Monday nights for as far back as they can remember. No big deal. Nothing ever happens, it’s just fun. Until someone breaks into Aaron’s house on poker night and one of them ends up killing the intruder. For a variety of reasons, the least of which, Aaron is trying to get his wife to return home with his kids, the quartet of friends decide the best course of action is to get rid of the body and keep it between just them.

Through a series of twists and turns, the body count rises and each of the victims is somehow connected to Aaron. As things get worse, Aaron discovers that his life is not only in danger, but it isn’t really the life he thought he had that he stands to lose.

The Poker Club is an entertaining enough movie if not totally predictable. There were very few things that I didn’t see coming. There is one aspect that the movie kept me in the dark about, but for the most part I just enjoyed the action scenes.

This is definitely a guy’s movie, lots of swearing and T & A—one of the buddies owns a strip club—But there are a few hot dudes for the gals to keep busy with. I will admit to watching it all in one sitting, which is not a common thing for me, so The Poker Club gets bonus points from me on that. The acting is fair and the story is okay, but if you are an Ed Gorman fan, don’t expect to be thrilled—the book is way better.

Overall, a good Wednesday night movie when broadcast television has reruns.
