When a concerned parent contacts Sam Purdy, a suspended Boulder, Colorado, policeman, Sam is drawn into the world of Yale University’s secret societies and the fortress that holds an unknown number of students. These students are used as pawns as the stakes reach a near-maddening level.
The Siege is a page turner from the beginning and Stephen White hits the mark with this tightly-crafted thriller.
When a concerned parent contacts Sam Purdy, a suspended Boulder, Colorado, policeman, Sam is drawn into the world of Yale University’s secret societies and the fortress that holds an unknown number of students. The hostage taker refuses to negotiate, makes no demands, but shows dissatisfaction by either releasing a student who serves as a spokesperson or executing them, one by one.
As Sam realizes the terrorist has singled out these students because of their parents’ high-profile political connections, he teams up with loner FBI agent Christopher Poe and CIA terror expert Dee Drake to try unconventional means to foil the terrorist.
Diverse characters who suffer from complex personal issues enrich this plot and offer the unpredictable psychological thrills we’ve come to expect from Stephen White. Disappointing it is not and will have fans reading frantically to find out how it ends. The Siege will make readers realize how sophisticated terrorists have become since their attack on the World Trade Center.
