Tracey Takes on…

The comedy stylings of Lucille Ball & Carol Burnett meet the makeup wonders of Lon Chaney in Tracey’s world.

The final two seasons (3 & 4) of Tracey Ullman’s Emmy Award-Winning HBO program is out on DVD. Entitled Tracey Takes on…, the 3 disc collection features guest appearances by the likes of Penny Marshall, Erik Estrada, Billy Connolly, Helen Mirren, Danny Trejo, Joanne Gleason, Julie Kavner, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Cheech Marin, Corbin Bernsen, Gary Oldman, Bob Costas, Michael McKean, Jerry Adler & Leeza Gibbons.

Ullman also brings back a bevy of favorite characters such as Hollywood make-up artist Ruby Romaine, ab old-timer who has seen it all and even has some experience to pass on to the porn industry;  disgruntled lawyer Sydney Cross; the nerdy virgin student Hope Finch; the talkative Sheneesha Turner and her friend at airport security; the flamboyant Trevor, an airline steward; collagen-lipped actress Linda Granger; the hilarious stunt woman Rayleen Gibson; the immigrant cab driver Chic and a few other of Ullman’s gallery of characters.

As usual, the skits run from pop culture and paparazzi to sex, fame and drugs with Ullman introducing each series via an interview. There is even real footage of her wedding incorporated into one of the interviews. Everything is fair game and open season to Ullman as she seamlessly blends her cast of characters. It’s mind boggling to think how long Ullman sits in a chair to have all of the makeup and prosthetics done for each character and how long it takes to put a show together that features her in practically every scene.

The bonus features include some 72 minutes of other skits that didn’t make the cut and have never been seen before, including a couple with Hugh Laurie (House, M.D.) and another with Monty Python’s Michael Palin and former teen idol John Stamos.

The porn movie skit is also part of the bonus features and there is another skit featuring Rayleen and how she was raised by dingoes and eventually found & somewhat socialized.

The total run time is 381 minutes, just shy of 5 hours of material. There are no subtitles and the DVD is in full screen and Dolby Digital Stereo.
