Wickedly horrific, the latest in the Wicked Dead series will make you think twice before plunging into that summer beach romance.
In the third installment of the popular series, the four girly, ghostly apparitions take another turn at the bones to see if one of them will be lucky enough to tell the tale of their demise. This time, it’s nervous Shirley who wins a chance to tell a story – but it’s almost too horrifying for her to share.
A girl named Lindsey goes on vacation with her parents to a run-down beach community that’s finally starting to revitalize. Things look glum – until she meets her cute neighbor, musician Mark. But things aren’t as they seem in Mark’s household, and Lindsey finds herself trying to save the boy she just might love from certain death.
Authors Stefan Petrucha and Thomas Pendleton expertly deliver the macabre and horrifically twisty to a new generation – one that has been introduced to the Twilight Zone-like themes through modern tomes like Supernatural and Buffy. They know just how to string the reader along with bits and pieces of twisted truth until the horrifying reality sinks in after the final page.
The best part about this installment is the continuation of the orphanage story. Anne is the orphanage’s spiteful new resident, and after a spin in the Red Room in Book 2, she’s ready to get revenge on the other girls for playing the bones without her. What will happen to the girls once the Headmistress finds out about their game nights? We’ll just have to wait and see…
These stories are guaranteed to make you jump at those little midnight bumps, and will set your imagination on a wild train through the dark and demented. This series is a must have for teen who crave ghoulish tales they can share around a campfire – in the deep, dark of night.
