Ebert Gives TV Two Thumbs Down

Beloved film critic Roger Ebert is leaving his popular film review show “At the Movies with Ebert & Roeper “.

The International Herald Times is reporting that Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert is walking away from his popular late night television series. Founded in 1975 with fellow film critic Gene Siskel, the two became a fixture in the reviewing community often making or breaking a film with their “thumbs up/thumbs down” system.

Ebert isn’t happy with the new direction that Disney-ABC Domestic Television is going with the program and has decided it’s time to move on.  Part of the decision I’m sure is due to his latest partner Chicago Sun-Times columnist Richard Roeper announcing his departure just the day before. Roeper joined the show after Gene Siskel’s sudden death in 1999.

Due to his ill health, this news doesn’t come as much of a surprise as Ebert hasn’t been on the show after suffering from serious health issues.
