It’s All About the Nerds

I have a serious thing for smart guys, and there's a lot of them on the new fall programming slate. "The Big Bang Theory," "Reaper," "Aliens in America" and "Chuck" all feature nerdy guys, who are kind of hot. In fact I like these shows so much, that all of them will be finding a place on my DVR, even if I have to buy another one. (Smile)

As Sheldon on “The Big Bang Theory,” Jim Parsons is brilliantly funny and charming at the same time. Maybe it’s because we get to see him in his tightie whities in the first episode (He tells me he wore two pair during the filming so nothing, um, showed.), but there’s just something about him that makes him absolutely endearing. He’s so obviously clueless when it comes to women, and maybe it’s that female desire to show him the way, but I just can’t get enough of this guy. Of all the nerds this season, he’s a favorite.

Technically, Sam (Bret Harrison) on “Reaper” is more of a slacker than a nerd, but he’s still a smart guy. Zachary Levi, who plays the lead in “Chuck” is about as charming as they come. It’s not his fault all the government secrets have been downloaded into his brain, but he makes the best of it. And he’s most definitely brilliant, if not the most athletic manly, man around.

Expect some surprising performances by Dan Byrd and Adhir Kalyan. These guys are so funny together, and as the most unpopular guys in high school, they rock.

So don’t call me the next few months (unless your name is Jim Parsons), I’ll be hanging out with my nerdy friends this season. So much TV, so little time.

I saw the Big Bang Theory pilot a few months ago. Complete dreck that show. Parsons is good, but I hated the show.

It may be a girl thing. While the pilot wasn’t perfect, it made me laugh and that’s not an easy thing to do these days.
