Knight Rider 1.02 - Journey To The End Of The End Of The Knight

Michael infiltrates a street racing group to find missing government weapons with the help of an old Army buddy.

This week Michael and KITT try to infiltrate a group run by the Chang brothers.  They are trafficing government weapons and technology to sell to third party buyers that could use these weapons for nerafious purposes.  They also run underground street racing in the area.  It’s determined that the best way to find them is to go to their local hangout the Halfway House Bar.  When they get there Michael finds that an old Army buddy named Sean works there.  Michael asks where to meet the Chang brothers and Sean warns him not to get mixed up with them.  KITT hacks into the security cameras and notifies Michael that Ian Chang’s girlfriend is in the bar.  He heads over and begins to chat her up when the Chang brothers show up.  Ian obviously wants to pick a fight but Michael challenges him to a race.  They agree to a race that the winner wins the other’s car.

The race starts and Michael and KITT are obviously letting the race stay even but Ian laughs at them and accelerates quickly.  KITT determines that Ian has a Nitrous Oxide system in his car allowing him to drive faster.  Michael instructs KITT to go into Attack Mode which will let them accelerate more.  KITT advises against it as their cover will be blown but Michael has him do it anyway.  They catch up with Ian and just then a car backs out onto the road Ian goes around it but Michael is going to fast to move so he instructs KITT to hit the Turbo Boost.  They fly over the car and Michael instructs him to go out of attack mode in midair as if the people at the finish line see them in attack mode their cover will be blown.  KITT advises that if he does his structrual intergity might be comprimised when he lands.  Michael says to go ahead and do it and KITT lands roughly.  His tires go out and the car begins to smoke.  They pull over just as Ian’s car fishtails and crashes into some parked cars exploding into flames just as Ian escapes.  Michael tries to talk to KITT but he is no longer working.

Back at the base Sara is giving Michael the third degree about never switching modes in mid jump.  KITT needs some work to get up in running again but is fixed pretty easily.  Michael and Sara (undercover as street racers) head back to the bar to see if the Chang brothers are going to let them into their group.  When Michael shows up to collect his winnings from the race the day before Ian tells him to come back later that night.  During the drive back to HQ KITT begins to question Michael and Sara about the differences between men and women.  Since he is a computer he doesn’t understand the differences other than from a biological standpoint.  When they come back to the bar later Sean fills in Sara that after the Army he spent two years in prison for accepting stolen goods and that he hopes Michael doesn’t fall into the same traps he did.  KITT then let’s Michael know Ian is on his way in and has a knife.  Michael flips him over his shoulder only to hear a gun cock behind him.  He turns to see Johnny.  He tells Michael he will let him race for him only if he can get a car just like the one his brother wrecked for a buyer.

The team determines that a guy in the area has the car they need and he is tied to racatering and extortion so they don’t feel to bad about stealing it from him.  Agent Torres explains to them that the project they work for is top secret and that if they get caught stealing a car they are on their own.  Sara is the one that comes up with the plan as the guy has a party called Model’s and Bottles Bikini Party.  She decides to sneak in and steal his car.  Michael disagrees but she convices him it’s the only way.  They show up to the party and KITT prints out a fake invitation and makes a fake key with a three dimensonal object generator.  She sneaks in as Michael watches through her glasses camera.  She finds the car and is about to grab it when the owner sees her.  She tries to act like she was just admiring it but ends up knocking him out.  She quickly gets the car only to be shot at by the man’s guards.  KITT follows her out and locks the drive way gates behind them making a clean getaway.

At the bar Michael and Sara wait for the Chang brothers to show up and Michael leans on KITT’s new hood placed view screen.  It scans Michael’s tattoo and a ton of classified documents start to show up.  Michael begins to try and access them so he can see if they will say anything about his memory gaps and then the Chang brothers show up.  Sara can’t get him to stop looking at them so she jumps on him to act like they are making out on the car.  When the brothers approach they get off the hood and see that the files are now gone off the screen. Johnny agrees to let Michael race for him.

Back at HQ Michael is trying to get KITT to access the files again but he says he doesn’t have access to anything.  Michael then goes to resident computer tech Billy to have him look at the last things KITT has access and nothing shows up.  Even after a scan of his tattoo nothing comes up.  Michael confronts Torres to see if he erased the files somehow but Torres feigns ignorance.  Micehal sees KITT watching an old western with John Wayne to learn about the difference between men and women.  Sara informs Michael that Sean has been moving a lot of money around in his accounts lately and that he might not be as trustworthy as he thinks but Michael blows her off.  Michael and Sara then head back to the bar for the race.  Johnny informs him that he has a lot of money riding on this race so not to lose.  Sean then comes over and Michael asks if he has a lot riding on it but Sean says if you don’t have any money then you can’t bet a lot of money.  The race starts and Sara sees a guy show up and go into the garage with the Chang brothers.  KITT ids him as a weapons maker named Robert Bellows.  Sara follows them and realizes they are unloading some of the missing weapons and tech they have been looking for.  She gets caught by Ian.  Michael turns around to come back to save her.  Just as he pulls in Sara fights off Ian and runs outside into KITT but Michael has already gone inside.  KITT tells Michael that he has Sara and Micheal tells him to get her out of there.  KITT leaves and Michael is hit from behind.

Michael wakes up and he is buried up to his neck in dirt.  Ian and Johnny are racing around him in dune buggies.  Sara says they need to find Michael but they can’t locate him using his GPS chip.  She goes to Sean to see if he might know where they would take him.  He says he knows a place and grabs his shotgun.  They take off to find him.  Meanwhile Johnny has now switched into a truck and is planning on running Michael over.  Sara tells Sean that what he is about to see is highly classified and brings KITT online.  He switches to 4X4 mode.  KITT arrives just in time and Johnny goes to stop the truck but it rolls over.  Sean aims the shotgun at Ian and Sara gets out to dig Michael out.  Michael gets out and Sara turns to check on Sean when he knocks her out with the shotgun.  He orders Michael to shut KITT down or he will shoot her.  Michael does and Sean ties them up to the overturned truck.  Sean tells Michael that he tried to keep him away from the Changs but now he knows to much and that KITT will get him a lot of money that he just can’t walk away from.

Bellows pulls a device out of a van and places it on KITT’s hood.  It’s a localized EMP that shuts down all of KITT’s electrical functions.  The team back at HQ is trying to find their location but with KITT down they can’t find them.  Sean tells the Chang brothers to make sure to dig another grave for Sara.  Ian comes over and starts accosting Michael who then starts fighting with Ian.  Billy back at base is able to get part of KITT back online and sees Michael fighting Ian.  Johnny goes to shoot Michael but shoots Ian instead.  KITT then shoots a laser to cut Michael’s chain on the truck.  Sean jumps into an SUV to get away before everything goes crazy.  Michael knocks out Johnny and then frees Sara.  They jump into KITT to follow Sean.  KITT informs them there is a drop off coming up that is not plainly visible and that going at that speed Sean will not be able to stop before he sees it.  Sean’s SUV goes over the cliff and explodes.  Michael gets out and looks sad for his friend.

Back at HQ Torres tells Michael they got all the weapons and tech at the port of LA before it was shipped out.  Michael asks about if they found out what happened with his tattoo scanning and Torres says it was an error and nothing to worry about.  Michael goes to talk to KITT and finds him finishing the movie from before.  KITT says he understands a little more now about differences between men and women and now understands friendship a little better.  He says he considers Michael his friend.

So again I think I found this episode a little hokey at times but now that we’re getting into the show and not having to set up characters it’s getting a little better to watch.  I was disappointed that this episode didn’t go more into the udnerground street racing.  I think that would have been a great subject for this show and with Doug Liman as a producer you can guarentee some good car chases.  But the little racing we did get was great.  One thing that irked me was the old Army buddy who of course turns on Michael.  Cliched and done to death.  I was actually hoping that it wouldn’t go that route but figured it would.  Again the most interesting thing is Michael’s missing memories.  I’m thinking that they are going to be doing some viral things with these as it instructed viewers to go online and try to find the files from this episode on the website.  Could be good.  Who knows?  But it was refreshing to see that the chemistry between KITT and Michael is getting better and I hope it will lead to better storylines for them.  Story wise this was not a great episode but some of the smaller stuff seems to have helped to move the plot along.
