Last night at the Emmys, Sally Field did her best Cindy Sheehan impression and stumbled her way around an anti-war statement during her thank you speech after winning best actress in a horrible drama or somesuch. Towards the end, the giant George W. Bush-faced elephant that is Fox/News Corp cut her off without the courtesy of swelling music; just a complete blackout.
This is why I don’t watch awards shows. In general, I don’t mind if celebrities make political statements. But I do have a problem with celebrities making political statements at awards shows. We’re already watching a self-congratulatory circle jerk and then they go off, begging for more attention and pats on the back. Guess what? It’s not novel, it’s not special and it’s rarely impactful. Get up there, say thank you for winning the social lottery and then go get hammered and do lines of coke with Lindsay Lohan off Kate Moss’s ass. Here’s a thought: join a protest.
In summation: no one cares what Gidget thinks and Fox hates mothers liberals everyone.
Prediction: Fox will chalk it up to technical problems, and posts the entire thing online. Sally Field goes on Larry King Live and enters The Situation Room wherein Wolf Blitzer makes more racist comments. Sean Hannity’s head explodes trying to defend the tit from which he feeds.
