Rango (PG) Johnny Depp plays the title character is this animated tale of a pet chameleon lost in the Nevada desert in search of the "spirit of the west." The end result is an entertaining tale right up there with the Toy Story soviel Observant movie fans will notice subtle nods to Blazing Saddles and Apocalypse Now (the flying bats scene). The result is a movie kids and adults will both enjoy on different levels. Director: Gore Verbinski

Beastly (PG-13) English actor Alex Pettyfer (yes, that's the same guy who was recently in I Am Number Four) leads the cast in this retelling of the classic fairytale based on the 2007 novel by Alex Flinn. Unfortunately, the transition to film is not that successful. Mary Kate Olsen is Kendra Hilferty, a magical witch who transformed Kyle (Pettyfer) because he broke up with her at school. The movie quickly becomes hard to follow, with scattered story lines leading to a predictable ending. Director: Daniel Barnz

The King's Speech (R) If you haven't seen the recent Oscar winner for Best Picture, see it before it leaves theaters. The film opens up with the Firth as the future King George VI delivering a speech with a pronounced stammer that shocks the crowds and frustrates "Bertie," as he is known to family members. Eventually Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush) is able to help. It's a compelling story that is well told here. Director: Tom Hooper

The Next Three Days (PG-13) Russel Crowe stars as man who devises an elaborate plan to get his wife (Elizabeth Banks) out of prison after she is convicted of a gruesome murder she didn't commit. This remake of the French film Pour Elle has it's moments, but is not Crowe at his best. Director: Paul Haggis

Jackass 3D (R) More of the same from Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera and Steve-O. If you like this kind of humor you'll appreciate it. Enough said. Director: Jeff Tremaine
